Cleaning-Electrodes

“The way your ionizer stays clean and free of mineral scale is important is because can determine the life span of your product and will directly affect the quality and potency of the water that you are drinking on a daily basis. The antioxidant power is dramatically affected by cleaning systems.
Mike Petrucelli

One of the most important features of an ionizer is how electrodes in the ionizing chamber keep from getting clogged and coated with mineral scale. How an ionizer cleans itself is critical because it affects the ability of the ionizer to produce the desired alterations in the water. If the unit electrodes have mineral build up in the water cell, the water is not contacting the plates like it needs to in order to ionize efficiently.

The Japanese made, high priced ionizer (the ‘Big E’)  uses an outdated, basic internal cleaning system. It cleans itself for 30 seconds after 15 minutes of run time. This is a 30:1 cleaning ratio (very ineffective).  The company knows this is not enough to keep the electrodes free of mineral scale, so they tell you to run water through unit on the acidic water setting [beauty water] morning and night for 2 minutes each time to try and remove some of the mineral build up.  Not only is this a waste of time, it’s a waste of water unless you capture it and use it for other purposes. It adds up! 4 gallons of wasted water per day (minimum)  or 1460 gallons of wasted water per year.  Running ‘beauty water’ every day as recommended uses up the lifespan of the internal filter, which is rated at 1500 gallons. The replacement cost for this filter is $140 with tax and shipping.  Following this company’s cleaning guidelines makes the filter replacement cost double what it would be if you were only running the machine for drinking water.

And that alone is not enough to keep your ionizer free of mineral scale. The company knows that these extremely mild cleanings are NOT effective enough, so they invented a cleaning cartridge for owners to do a self-cleaning at home.  It is available as a kit with 24 cleaning packets of citric acid and a cartridge that is inserted in place of the internal filter. They want you to clean your unit every 2 weeks at home. Every 2 weeks! When you set the machine up for cleaning, you cannot use it for 3-5 hours and sometimes overnight. With tax and shipping the kit is costs $50.00 and will last about a year.

And running beauty water twice a day and cleaning with citric acid is not enough to keep your ionizer free of mineral scale! [Mainly because it is too much trouble and most people won’t do it!] So they recommend that you disconnect the unit, drain the water, package it up and ship it to the service center in California to have the unit “Deep Cleaned”. You are pay $35 for this service, and you pay for the shipping and the insurance ($50.00+ each way). You are also without your precious ionized water for at least a week or two.

What does this inefficient cleaning system cost you?

  1. Filter cost …just for the wasted water….not including your regular drinking water use. (~$140.00)
  2. The cleaning kit (~$50.00) and you have to do the set up and clean up yourself.
  3. Pay them to deep clean once a year (~$135 for cleaning fee and shipping) Remember, you are without fresh alkaline ionized water for days or weeks.
  4. Wasted water from having to run the acidic water daily (approx. 4 gals per day)
  5. Your time and effort to do ALL of the above listed inconveniences.

Total?

Following these guidelines, you will have to spend $325 additional dollars per year just to make up for their poor design.

The truth is, most people who own this ionizer are completely unaware of these requirements, and their $4400 investment is at risk. Others know what they should do, but think that they can get by without doing these chores or spending this extra money. You might get by, just don’t plan on drinking the best water every time you turn on that old, outdated, Japanese unit. And be prepared for likely damage from the minerals eating the precious Platinum and Titanium off of the ionizer plates. (VERY expensive repair, not covered by warranty.)

The way your ionizer stays clean and free of mineral scale is important is because can determine the life span of your product and will
directly affect the quality and potency of the water that you are drinking on a daily basis.
The antioxidant power and ability to produce
molecular hydrogen is dramatically affected.

Most people don’t realize that the antioxidant power (concentration of molecular hydrogen) of their ionized water is decreased over time. Until recently they have not been able to test for the presence of H2 (click here to find out how to test for H2) and the ORP meters, (ORP is an indicator of H2) are inaccurate and cost $130+.
