World Health Organization Recommends Water as the Best Source of Minerals

We all know that we need to consume foods rich in calcium and magnesium, but rarely consider the impact of the beverages we drink on our daily intake. Of course, cow’s milk is a source of calcium – we learned that in grade school. But did you know that water is one of the best sources of calcium and it’s partner magnesium? According to the World Health Organization, minerals like calcium and magnesium are absorbed 30% better from water than from milk, supplements, or other food sources. In fact, they recommend that you get 10 – 20% of your daily needs for these important alkaline minerals by drinking water.

Recommended Calcium Intake 1,000 – 1,200 mg/day

Recommended Magnesium Intake 360 – 420 mg/day

Caution! Soft water is deficient in calcium and magnesium. Bottled water that has been subjected to Reverse Osmosis filtration is also lacking in these critical minerals.

Calcium in Bottled Water

You can find out how much calcium and magnesium is in your tap water by getting a copy of your local water report. These levels are reported in mg/L making it easy to figure out how much you can obtain from drinking water. For major metropolitan areas we have provided a table obtained from the NIH.

Calcium in Drinking Water

For example: The average for calcium in drinking water on the West Coast is 58 mg/L . That  means if you consumed 3 liters per day you would be getting 172 mg of calcium from water alone.

If you use a home water ionizer, like the AlkaViva Vesta, Athena or UltraDelphi, you can increase both the amount that’s in your water as well as the bioavailability. Concentration increases by 20% [with Level 3 water, or ~9.5 pH] and the form of the calcium and magnesium is changed from the relatively unavailable carbonate to a mineral hydroxide.

Drinking alkaline, ionized UltraWater is a delicious, calorie-free way to obtain two much needed minerals … calcium and magnesium. AlkaViva UltraWater filtration systems remove up to 99.9% of any contamination of your water with chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, disinfection by-products, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and a multitude of other chemicals. Unlike bottled water – which has been stripped of healthy minerals – it is eco-friendly and does not contribute to plastic pollution … or pollution of your body with plastic chemicals. It helps the body maintain a healthy alkaline balance and better hydration.
